Prince Carl Philip of Sweden

Updated on January 1, 2013

The handsome Prince of Sweden

Prince Carl Philip is the only Prince of Sweden. His two sisters are Princesses Victoria and Madeleine. It is said that the Prince is shy and like to stay in the outskirts of fame.

He was born on 13 of May 1979. His full name is Carl Philip Edmund Bertil Bernadotte.

1982 the royal family moved to Drottningholms Castle.

Carl Philip was born to be the crown prince of Sweden but a year after his birth the parliament changed the order of succession. The new law meant that the first born child, instead of the first born son, should inherit the heir to the throne. Thus, his older sister Victoria became crown princess and Carl Philip became prince.

After having finished high school he went to the USA where he studied at the American Kent in the state of Conneticut for two years. After that he went back to Sweden where he finished senior high school at the boardin school Lundsbergs skola. He graduated in 1999.

The school includes about 350 faculty and curators, and 400 staff members. About 1,880 undergraduates and 370 graduate students enroll from all over the United States and 50 other countries.

The competition about a logo for Martha´s Vineyard Museum resulted in that the Prince won with his light house design.

Prince Carl Philip introduced a line of silvery cutlery he has design for the Swedish company Mema/GAB.

The cutlery line, which has been named CPB 2091, is made of silver and a set of five pieces (knife, fork, spoon, dessert spoon, coffee spoon) can be purchased from goldsmith stores around Sweden for 999 Swedish kroner (approximately 95 Euros).

The Prince, who studied design at the Rhode Island School of Design in the US and the Forsberg Studio in Sweden, said of his designs, "It's been a fantastic challenge and I am really proud of the result."

The Prince and a Porsche

The Prince was test driving a Porsche and a BMW in preparation for this year’s Porsche Carrera Cup.

Carl Philip participated in the Cup last year, and says that he has not set any goals for the race. But, of the ice driving? “It is really useful, and of course, it is also fun. I compete mainly because I think it is fun,” the Prince told reporters. Carl Philip practiced on the ice last year with his father, King Carl XVI Gustaf.

Last Days of the Reich: The Diary of Count Folke Bernadotte, October 1944–May 1945
Count Folke Bernadotte was one of those rare figures in war - a man trusted by both sides alike. Shortly before the war ended, Bernadotte was the leader of a rescue operation to transfer western European inmates to Swedish hospitals in the so-called 'White Buses'. This work through the Swedish Red Cross involved mercy missions to Germany and it was through this link that Bernadotte came into touch with prominent Nazi leaders in the 1940s.
