Tasty Ways To Cook Eggs

Most people know that there are other ways to cook an egg other than scrambled, fried or boiled but few people realize just how many other ways they are. The egg is a very versatile food and can be added into just about any recipe you can imagine. There are numerous ways to use them in your cooking and numerous ways to cook them.

This lens is all about finding variety when cooking eggs, so that you don't become burned out eating the same thing over and over again. While you're likely to find cooking methods that you already know, my hope is that you'll also find a few egg recipes that you didn't know about. A few valuable cooking tips to make your egg cooking a little easier will also be scattered about.

The benefits of eggs are well-known; we're actually quite lucky to have such a wonderful source of protein available to everyone for such a low price. It's good to know more than a few ways to cook them. I hope you enjoy the lens and find it useful.

The golden treasure inside a shell can be cooked in so many ways.

1-Adding An Egg To Your Whites

Egg white recipes are out there, but they won't do you any good if you won't eat whites. Most people get hung up on the color difference between egg whites and regular eggs. Try adding in 1 regular egg to your whites before scrambling to make the transition a little easier.

2-Greek Omelet

Fill an omelet with feta cheese, scallions, chopped tomatoes and garlic. Fry using olive oil.

3-Bacon and Egg Sandwich

It's amazing how much better bacon and eggs taste if you put them on either regular or grilled toast. No mayo needed. One of my most used go to egg recipes.

4-Shell Problems

If some shell breaks off into your eggs, use a larger piece of shell to fish it out. They will stick together very easy (almost like magnets).

5-Monte Cristo Sandwich

Dip a ham and cheese sandwich into a beaten egg and then fry until golden brown in butter. Serve with a side of sour cream, if desired.

6-Sour Cream and Chive Scrambled Eggs

A simple scrambled eggs recipe that only requires you to stir in some sour cream and chives (as much or as little as you want) into you eggs. Start off small, and add more later the next time you fix it.

7-How To Tell If An Egg Is Bad

Put your egg in a bowl of cold water (about 2 times higher than egg). If it floats to the top, don't eat it. As long as some part of the egg is touching the bottom of the bowl, it's safe to consume.

8-BLT Plus Egg

Make your bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwich even better by adding a fried egg to it. Don't forget to bust the yolk while frying.

9-Easy Deviled Eggs Recipe

Cut a dozen hard boiled eggs in half and take out the yolks. Mix the yolks along with 1/3 cup of yogurt, 1 tablespoon of lemon juice, 1 tablespoon of vinegar, 2 teaspoons of Dijon mustard and a pinch of pepper. Spoon into the whites and top with paprika or parsley.

10-Appetizer With Egg Whites

Mix one egg white with a pinch of cayenne and sea salt and teaspoon of fresh herbs (your choice). Brush the mixture on 4 slices of whole wheat bread and bake until golden brown (about 350 degrees). Cut into triangles and arrange on a platter.

11-How To Make Scrambled Eggs Even Better With Curry

Beat 4 eggs together and add in 1/4 cup of whole milk and 1 teaspoon of curry powder. Scramble and sprinkle a little parsley on top as a garnish.

12-A Few Variations On The Eggs Benedict Recipe

Substitute another type of meat for the bacon or ham. Maybe salmon or crab?

Use artichoke bottoms in place of the English muffins.

Make the meal more country by using a biscuit, sausage patty and gravy.

13-How To Hard Boil Eggs

Put eggs in a pot full of cold water (enough to cover the them well). Add a tablespoon or two of salt - this won't make the eggs taste salty, but will make them easier to peel. Heat over high until they begin to boil and then remove from heat source. Cover and let stand for around 12 minutes. Drain, run under water to cool and then peel.

14-Poach Your Eggs Using Ice

Although the protein in an egg is the same whether the yolk is broken or not, I'm one of those people who likes my yolk intact every once in a while. I've found that the best way to keep egg yolks from breaking is by poaching them in a frying pan. Just carefully crack the eggs into the pan and put a cube or two of ice in there with it. Now cover the pan. The ice melts producing steam and cooks the egg completely without having to be turned over. Remove when done to your liking.

15-Western Omelette

An omelette filled with chopped onions, green bell peppers and ham. Serve with a side of hash browns and you've got a real meal.

16-Easy Way To Fill Deviled Eggs

Just put the yolk mixture into a plastic sandwich bag and snip off a corner. Now you can just squeeze out what's needed into the whites.

17-Sausage Scramble

A very simple way to cook an egg is to add meat to it. I like to experiment by adding at least three different types of sausage. My latest favorite includes regular breakfast sausage, kielbasa and salami (all chopped).

18-You Need Eggs To Make French Toast

Mix together three eggs, 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract, 3/8 cup of milk, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon in a bowl. Next, dip some Texas Toast into the mix (both sides) and then put it straight into a hot skillet. Fry until golden brown. Top off with more cinnamon and powdered sugar.

19-Hangtown Fry

A type of omelette that originated during the California Gold Rush back in the 1850's. The most common version includes mixing oysters and bacon with the eggs and then frying them. Some people even deep fry the oysters before adding them to the omelette. Also feel free to add onions or bell peppers if desired.

20-Green Pea, Salsa and Chorizo Scramble

Chop up some Brown Chorizo sausage and mix with your eggs. Scramble, and towards the end, fold in some thawed peas and your favorite brand of salsa. Serve over grilled Texas Toast.

I can now put my eggs, biscuits and gravy in one container without having to worry about it turning into complete mush. A great little item to have to take a meal to work with you.
